Before the Album…
Molars formed in 2017 with Matt on Drums and Chris on Guitar and Vocals. We wrote a handful of songs and started putting together a 3-track demo in Chris' shed. We had originally decided it would be cool to be a 2-piece, but after hearing the difference adding bass to our demos we decided to look for a Bassist. We met Dec through JoinMyBand.com and together we finished of our demo.
We played our first ever show at The Maze in Nottingham at a local showcase event. Afterwards, someone from the other bands gave us a backhanded compliment, this became the name of our next release: “Tight, But Not Groundbreaking”. We recorded some more songs with Hamish Dickinson at Phoenix Sound Studios and finally got some band photos done. The our favourite tracks from these two release were combined to make the Besides EP.

Before the Album…
We recorded a couple more songs with Hamish at Phoenix Sound, and even got Lizzy Farrall to come down and feature on No Words! But we eventually decided that to become a more sustainable band we needed to become more DIY. Through a lot of trial and error we learnt to record and produce our own songs, film our own music videos, take our own photos, and put on our own tours. We spent the next few years playing as many shows as possible and releasing as many singles as we possible could. The best of these songs made it onto the Furthermore EP.

What's it about?
We started writing songs in a new guitar tuning and this was the first one that came out of that period. It was inspired by a lot of the ‘American Midwest Emo’ and ‘Emo Revival’ bands.* I’d recently got into finger tapping on the guitar so I was trying to force as much in to any and every song I was writing at the time. I guess looking back, the lyrics feel very on the nose but they felt appropriate at the time.
*This is what I’m referring to them as, I don’t know if this is the ‘true definition’ of these bands, please don’t @ me okay?
With all the voices in my head saying
I know she doesn’t want me anymore
I’m too intense, I can’t let go, I can’t control myself
I’m a mess all the time
Forever ducking punches, falling into drop kicks
Over and over and over again
I always thought I’d make it through each day
Trusting my lungs to breathe for me
I was always told to believe in myself
But I don’t believe in anything
It’s just so damn hard to feel anything
It’s too goddamn hard
No Words
What's it about?
This was the last song we recorded for the TBNG EP. We had the instrumental side of things for a while but no words…hence the name. At the time, this song felt like the sound we had been aiming for so it stayed with us for a while. While recording, we had Lizzy Farrell come in to do some guest vocals on the track. She just happened to be in the area with Miles from Catch Fire and Hamish knew them quite well so invited them over. It was super cool to have her feature on the track.
I’m happy when I’m with you, that’s what scares me
Because when you’re not around, I don’t like who I am
I’m trying my best to get over it
And I’m trying my best to get used to it
I don’t know what happened here behind lock doors made from floorboards
Either way, I don’t mind so long as you’re alive
By the way, I’m doing great
I’m not just a waste of space
In my dreams I’ve never quite been able to see what is right
Thank You!
